In the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, this is the daily reality for many families. This past June, our team at MMI Amazon teamed up with Sugar Creek Baptist Church from Texas to change that story. We traveled to the Cacao River, a place that completely dries up for months. When the river disappears, indigenous families have to walk three hours each way just to find a small channel of water. It is a beautiful place, but the struggle to survive is real.
We believe that no one should have to face that struggle alone.
During two intense and life-changing weeks, MMI Amazon team alongside Sugarcreek Baptist church, put their faith into action. Our medical teams worked day and night to treat more than 2,000 patients. We provided everything from dental care and eye exams to essential medicine. But we didn’t stop there. Through our Living Water Program, we donated 15 water tanks. These tanks allow families to store 500 liters of water right at home, saving them from those long, exhausting walks and giving them a better future.
As we provided physical relief, we also shared a message of hope. Our team sat down with over 100 families to talk about the Gospel and offer counseling. We showed them that while the tanks provide water for the body, Jesus provides “Living Water” for the soul. It was a powerful mix of medicine, hard work, and deep spiritual connection.
